Tebbaneh District in Tripoli

A detailed view of the Tebbaneh district of Tripoli. Note the minaret of the Attar mosque. Behind is the St. Mary (Saydeh) Maronite Church (recently renovated, 2001). It is common in Tripoli to see churches and mosques very close together. Throughout their old and recent histories, Tripolitans have always been, and still are, a unique example of social and communal unity in Lebanon. Many families, Muslim or Christian, share the same names and most of them celebrate the same religious feats.
