Tripoli celebrates Ramadhan in a way that is not present in many of the Arab or Muslim cities. Studies mentioned the presence of at least 20 different social practices done in this month, these
are:
An installed cannon in the Tripoli citadel fires three times a day (at sunrise, sunset, and one hour before sunrise).
The mousahharati (a person who wanders in the streets of the city singing religious hymns to waken people to have their last meal - Sahour - before the sunrise, this is practiced every day).
Al-Wada'a (a carnaval-like march in the streets, organized in the last ten days of Ramadhan, in which people and young children sing religious songs while playing different instruments).
Special Ramadhan meals (Taskiyyeh, Fattoush, Kebbeh Nayyeh, etc..), Carob and blackberry juice drinks, Ramadhan sweets (Basmah, Karbouj Halab, Halawet el-Joubn, Halawet el-Rouz, Ward el-Sham,
etc..).
Special dresses (at least new clothings for the youngsters).
Religion teaching in Mosques (for this many Egyptian preachers come from the famous al-Azhar University to give religious lessons in the city).
Celebrating the Kadir (the first night of Holly Quran citation) Night in the mosques for a complete night (in one of the last ten days of Ramadhan).
Visiting the hairs of the beard of Prophet Mohammad (Salla-Allah-u-Aleyhi-wa-Sallam) kept in the Mansouri Great Mosque at the last Friday of Ramadhan.
Celebrating the reading of the final chapter of the Holly Quran (each day one of the 30 Quran chapters is completed).
Reading the Bukhari Book of the Prophet Mohammad (Salla-Allah-u-Aleyhi-wa-Sallam) Sayings at the Taynal Mosque.
The restaurants in which free food is served for the needy.
Special markets selling items used in Ramadhan.
Ramadhan nights in which families meet, other families cite the Holy Quran together, etc..
Recently, the habit of mounting tents (Khiyam el-Hana) is also practiced. In these tents different activities are taking place (competitions, etc..).
